Post 2 – Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? (Author: Leo Babauta)

It is hard to pinpoint one area of my life that doesn’t somehow contribute to my writing. That is, my writing draws upon inspiration and my life experiences. Everything I do, day in and day out, adds up to what inspires stories or musings for writing. If I think about this literally, I would have to say that time in front of the TV or driving long distances doesn’t contribute to my writing – that’s because I’m doing something other than writing or those are activities are deemed as not doing anything constructive. However, oftentimes, TV can inspire thoughts and ideas or even humorous anecdotes, and driving can lend itself to some of the most thoughtful uninterrupted time with only you and your thoughts.  Therefore, I hesitate to list either of those, or any other activities in my daily life, as things that don’t contribute to my writing. Everything contributes to my writing and I wouldn’t deny any aspect of my life the importance it has in shaping who I am and the thought processes it lends.
